MSA Drag Racing & Street2Strip 22 Feb 2014 – Info

MSA DRAG RACING & STREET2STRIP AT KILLARNEY: SAT 22nd February 2014

On Saturday 22nd February Killarney will be hosting its first round of the 2014 WPMC Drag racing championship. Entries will take place at the main gate caravan from 7am with competitors on the track from 9am and prize giving scheduled to start at 5.30pm. This will be followed by Street2Strip from 6pm till 10pm with entries for Street2Strip taking place from 5.30pm. Spectators will also be entertained by Short Circuit racing taking place on the Killarney oval side of the facility.

The recent completed improvements at the run-off area of the drag strip has resulted in Motorsport SA allowing Killarney to host duel runs for vehicles running as quick as 9,5 seconds over the quarter mile. This resulted in a nail biting run between the Chev Can-Am of Willie Nel and Chev Firenza of Ralph Kumbier, this was something not seen at Killarney for many years and should be spectacular if both of them make it to the start line on Saturday. Additional improvements are under way for the spectators, this in the form of retaining walls around the start line area that will eventually see a raised section and spectator stands for better viewing.

Entries and MSA license applications will be available at the main gate caravan from 7am till 10am while scrutineering will remain open till 10.30am. MSA social licenses are available for all streetcars (provided you don’t go quicker than 12,5 seconds) at a cost of R270. The MSA license is valid till the end of the year. It is the same for motorcycle provided you don’t go quicker than 11 seconds over the quarter mile. The MSA race entry fee is R180 for WPMC members and R250 for non WPMC members, including free access for the driver to get into the facility.

Gates open at 7am, tickets cost R60 per person till 4pm, thereafter R50 per person. Under 12 years old get in free.
