Info – Power Series (18 Feb 2017)

This is it! You waited out an excruciating 3 month off season (some have waited much longer) but the time has finally arrived! It's the start of race season in Cape Town and 2017's rule changes are sure to bring some very interesting results at the first round of the Western Province superbike championship, sponsored by Mike Hopkins. Big changes to note include the dropping of class C superbikes to huge boo's from certain members of the gallery. This has made way for the burgeoning Powersport classes (we called this at the end of 2015) so that the new race format looks like this….

Superbikes A, B and X and Supersport (600cc).  – Two races.

Powersport A,B and X. – Two races.

Clubmans A,B and X and Classic Superbikes. – Two races

…with the bonus for this years punters being that in each race, the leading bike will also be leading on paper.

Need more? Well make your way down to pit lane and welcome the return of the 2015 superbike champion, Ronald 'The Red Baron' Slamet. He'll be piloting a Yamaha R1S, procured from Brits Racing and in a slightly ironic twist, originally set up by David McFadden. Ironic because this year McFadden will be piloting the same (although an updated model) bike that helped put Slamet out of contention in the 2016 season. Yes, it's going to be a battle of the titans.BMW and Yamaha going toe-to-toe with Kawasaki keeping a keen eye on the proceedings.

See you Saturday morning. Race one starts at 9am.
